Pidotimod is an immunostimulant or a biological response modifier

INDICATIONS:

It is indicated as an adjuvant therapy in the prophylaxis and management of:
• acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis,
• recurrent respiratory infections like rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis
• it has been found useful in atopic asthma in reducing the allergy component
• Candidates are children with recurrent acute respiratory tract infections
• senile population with immunoscenesence

ADMINISTRATION:

To optimize absorption, pidotimod should be given 2 hours before or 2 hours after meals

Dosage for paediatric patients: children 4-12 years of age: In acute exacerbations of URTI, 400 mg twice daily for 15-20 days accompanied with standard antibiotic therapy. Maintenance dose (as per clinical studies) and as prophylaxis against relapse 400 mg once a day for 60 days. Prophylaxis against relapse: 400 mg once a day before breakfast for 60 days

Dosage for adults:

Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 800 mg twice daily for 8 days along with standard antibiotic therapy Maintenance dose and as prophylactic therapy: 800 mg once daily for 2 months

GERIATRIC PATIENTS: no difference has been found in dosages for geriatric patients.

CONTRAINDICATION: Hypersensitivity to the components

PRECAUTIONS: concurrent or past use of other immunomodulatory drugs , corticosteroids, viral vaccinations and other drugs which modify immune reactions. Special precaution to be taken in patients with renal impairment, children less than 2 years and diabetic patients

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: There are no available studies for use in pregnancy. However Stimmune is not carcinogenic, teratogenic, or mutagenic, and has no adverse effect on fertility

ADVERSE REACTIONS: Rare but include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain,diarrhoea , itching, rashes, headache and drowsiness If you notice any other side-effects, contact your doctor for medical advice.
